Update: Memorial Causeway Bridge fatal accident

Update: Clearwater, Florida - Investigators identified the victim as Vincent Ciabattoni of Clearwater.

The Memorial Causeway Bridge was shut down in both directions for several hours while the investigation was underway.

The bridge reopened to traffic in both directions at 1:00 a.m.

Clearwater, Florida -- The Clearwater Police Department is working a fatal accident on the Memorial Causeway Bridge in Clearwater. The area is closed between Island Way and Pierce Blvd.

All westbound lanes are closed and one eastbound lane is open.

Traffic Homicide Investigators says that a motorcycle was speeding eastbound on The Causeway when the driver lost control. The driver hit the raised median in the bridge and was ejected. The driver was thrown into a lightpole in the median and killed. The accident is still under investigation.
