Tampa, Florida - Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that Rex Ballenger has died from his injuries from a car accident over the weekend.
Troopers say around 7:55 a.m. on Saturday morning, Ballenger crashed his Saturn car into the back of a semi-truck that was stopped at a red light.
The crash happened at the intersection of Big Bend Road and U.S. 41 in Gibsonton.
Ballenger was rushed to Tampa General Hospital. He died on Monday. FHP says Ballenger was not wearing his seatbelt.
The teenager was a standout quarterback for East Bay High School.
He would have graduated next week.
