Lightning lock up goalie Mike Smith

TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed goaltender Mike Smith to a two-year contact extension today, owners Oren Koules and Len Barrie announced.

Smith, 6-foot-3, 211 pounds, appeared in 13 games with the Lightning last season and posted a 2.79 goals-against average, an .893 save percentage and one shutout. Prior to being acquired by Tampa Bay he posted a 12-9-0 record with a .906 save percentage and a 2.46 save percentage with Dallas.

Smith was acquired by the Lightning from Dallas with Jeff Halpern, Jussi Jokinen, and a fourth-round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Brad Richards and Johan Holmqvist on February 26, 2008. He was drafted by Dallas in the fifth-round, 161st overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
