Migraine relief

Pinellas Park, Florida — Nearly 30 million people in the U.S. suffer from migraines, and women are three times more likely to get them.

While medication is the most common remedy, Al Meilus, a therapist from Pinellas Park, attacks specific muscles with his robotic arm. He developed and patented the robot and has sold thousands of them across the country.

Al programs the robot to lengthen the muscles that can alleviate headache and migraine pain. He likens it to principles of engineering.

“It's like the Sunshine Skyway cable," he explains. "Shorten one cable three feet, and the whole system is off somewhere... find that cable, lengthen that cable, you get the relief. The robot breaks up adhesions and lengthens the muscle.”

Relief can be almost immediate, 10 to 15 minutes in many cases. Marc Moore is receiving treatment for sinus headaches brought on by, among other things, too many hours at the computer.

“Learning how to relax the muscles, definitely has helped," Moore says. "I have not gone through a box of sinus medication since January, and I usually go through about four boxes by now. And I rarely take a pain pill now.”

Those who suffer from migraines and headaches say that a change in barometric pressure can trigger pain.

Insurance can cover some of the costs of robotic therapy. For more information, click here.
