Tampa, Florida - Hillsborough election officials say the primary went smoothly with the new paper ballots, but results were running behind other area counties. Election officials say they had the numbers, but the new software wasn't posting it.
Meantime Hillsborough voter, Mark Ferguson says when he went to his precinct, at the West Tampa Convention Center, at 7 AM he couldn't get in.
Ferguson asked what the problem was and he says he was told the paper ballots weren't going through the machine properly.
According to Ferguson, once he got into the precinct and voted, the machine still wouldn't accept the paper ballot. Ferguson says poll workers said he might have to fill out another ballot, but he suggested maybe the perforations on the form were causing the problem.
Ferguson says once they took his advice the ballot went through. A poll worker told Ferguson that they didn't know they would have to take off the perforations because it wasn't explained in training.
However, the people who run the polling place say the election came off without a hitch and Ferguson is wrong about there being problems.
Precinct Clerk Lucy Lamy says they had nobody waiting and there was no problems with the ballots either.
Ferguson says, it's a paper ballot why should it be this hard.
That's what voters in Florida have been asking in every election since 2000.
