St. Petersburg, Florida— A Sarasota woman says she refused to miss Wednesday night’s Rays game even after a doctor told her she needed emergency surgery.

Helene Sovern was sent to the hospital after a sharp piece of medal was found lodged in her throat.

She was taken into surgery at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, but somehow still managed to make it to that night’s game

“The nurse had to wheel me out and I said ‘can you move it honey! I have to get on the highway,’” Sovern recalls after arriving to the game still wearing her hospital ID band.

The Sarasota area resident and long time Rays fan says she wasn’t able to scream, but did her best to root on the Rays by clapping.

And because the Rays were able to pull off their 10-3 win over the Red Sox, she says she’s already feeling much better.
