Tallahassee, Florida -- Now that early voting is in full swing, so is the true test of election equipment.
Election officials in Duval County are experiencing problems with the ballots not scanning properly. A spokesperson from Florida's Department of State said there was a problem with the BODs (Ballot On Demand) machines.
Officials said the machines weren't reading the ballots properly because the machines weren't aligned properly. When the machines were tested today, they worked. They added that the problem occurred at multiple polling facilities.
In Leon County, officials blamed problems with the optical scan machines on the paper being the wrong size.
"It's not an issue with the actual optical scanning equipment but it is more of an issue with the ballot," said Browning. "Those ballots are apparently a fraction too short for the equipment to recognize that it's a ballot."
Secretary of State Kurt Browning said they've investigating the problems and working with Duval County Election officials. He reassured us that the machines were tested prior to the elections and he blamed the wrong sized paper on the manufacturer.
