Gas prices continue to tumble

Gulfport, Florida -- If you've filled up your gas tank within the last few days you've probably already noticed, gas prices are continuing to fall. In fact on Friday, the American Automobile Association said the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded in the Bay area had dropped below $2 to $1.99. However, some area stations are already well below the $2 mark.

The Marathon gas station at 5227 Gulfport Blvd. in Gulfport is selling a gallon of gas for $1.79. The Sunoco, a block away, is also selling for less than $1.80.

"I was like, 'Yeah baby!'" an excited Nicole Simmons said as she filled up her gas tank at the Marathon station Friday afternoon.

"It's about time," added Karen Conklin of Gulfport.

Some experts predict the price of a gallon of regular unleaded could drop to $1.50 by the end of the year. Gregg Laskoski, of AAA Auto Club South, agrees prices should continue to drop, but is not sure they will drop that much more.

"I think that ($1.50) is maybe a little too optimistic. But I think if we're around $1.70, $1.75 somewhere around there in the Tampa market that might be the low that we see."
