Hillsborough County, FL -- Many of us were happy to open our presents this holiday season and find a new TV or computer. But when it comes to getting rid of the old stuff, that sometimes presents a problem.
Today, Hillsborough County allowed people to drop off their old electronics and chemicals for disposal, and the cars were lined up early. Over 800 people dropped off their used stuff.
"There's five to eight pounds of lead that's in your TV, which is bad for the environment. We don't want that material going into our landfill or being combusted or burned at the waste energy plant," says Environmental Specialist Anthony Sullivan.
If you missed out on today's recycling opportunity, there are a couple of other drop sites open this month.
The following sites are open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.:
1st Saturday of the month: 9085 Sheldon Rd.
2nd Saturday of the month: 13000 U.S. Hwy 41 just north of Big Bend Rd.
3rd Saturday of the month: 6209 CR 579
