St. Petersburg, Florida - The Tampa Bay Rays have confirmed they have signed former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Pat Burrell to a two-year deal worth $16 million.

Officials with the Rays say 32-year-old Burrell is currently taking his physical. If he passes, the deal will be complete.

Last year, Burrell hit .250 with 33 homers for the World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies. He is expected to DH for the Rays.

Burrell also hit well against lefties, with an OPS of .952, a big need for the Rays lineup.

One of the Rays' top priorities was to add a right-handed power hitter in a lineup also featuring Carlos Pena, Evan Longoria, B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford.
