The secret to resume writing

Tampa, Florida - Finding a job these days is very difficult with cutbacks being made everywhere, along with high unemployment numbers.

No one knows this better than someone who is struggling with a job search.

A good resume is key when you do find that potential employer. It's got to say just the right things about you to let that boss know you're a good fit for the company.

The University of South Florida's College of Business offered a free resume workshop on Saturday, where those seeking business careers could get the advice they needed in polishing a resume.

It seemed to be exactly what people needed to improve their resumes. They were also treated to abbreviated individual critiques by more than two dozen business owners.

Local managers gave their much-needed feedback to those embattled in a job search.

One organizer told us why resumes are so important, saying, "Well, the resume is the first impression you give to a potential employer, so it could make or break your chances of getting an interview and, ultimately, getting a job. So, it could be one of the most important things you do in your job search."

Experts say it's crucial to send a cover letter with every resume for a quick summary of your goals for a new position with the company.

According to experts, don't bother with fancy, colored paper to print your resume. Some employers will make copies of your resume and the print will not come out properly on a copier if the paper is colored.

Also, the shorter the better. Keep it simple with the font and the description of your past positions.
