Aggressive suspect killed by deputies in south Pinellas

A 911 call got out of hand and ended with bloodshed.

Deputies shot and killed a suspect outside an apartment complex in Lealman late Wednesday afternoon, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting occurred around 5:28 at an apartment complex at 4280 Mallory Dr., according to Maj. David Danzig.

Deputies were called to the scene after a woman told a neighbor she was involved in a domestic disturbance with her boyfriend, who she said was intoxicated. She also had scratches on her neck. The neighbor called 911.

When deputies arrived, they spoke with the woman, 36-year-old Megan Anderson, who told them her boyfriend, 43-year-old William J. Beavers, was intoxicated and was unlikely to cooperate with them. The deputies then went to the front door and knocked.

After a couple of tries, Beavers opened the door, He was holding a large knife in his left hand, Danzig said.

Beavers told deputies they were going to have to kill him, Danzig said.

The deputies drew their weapons, telling Beavers to drop the knife. he didn't comply and moved forward, and the deputies shot him in the chest. The deputies rendered aid, but he died at the scene.

The deputies, Tyler Green and Brennan Weedy, have been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated, Danzig said.
