Celebrate National S'mores Day
There's a day for everything, and August 10 happens to be National S'mores Day! Light up a fire, grill or microwave and make the classic campfire dessert. If you want to try something a little less traditional check out these cool s'more recipes. Fun fact: The first official s'mores recipe was published in the Girl Scout Handbook in 1927
Yoga at Curtis Hixon Park
Fun and FREE yoga in the beautiful park by the water. Class lasts from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is designed for all levels. Make sure to check their Facebook page just before class to make sure it's not canceled due to weather.
Cool down with 'Frozen"
At Disney's Hollywood Studios, "Frozen Summer Fun LIVE" has been extended to September 28. Visit the chilly realm of Arendelle with a royal welcome parade, a chance to meet beloved characters Anna and Elsa and even a sing-along! You know you want to belt out 'Let It Go' again.
Check out the 2nd Annual Summer Cabaret Festival in Venice. With 21 different acts there's something for everyone! Tickets are only $15 dollars per show.
Have a mother, daughter day
Or how about an Empress and her Princess day? The Tampa Bay Moms Group has put together a unique event called "The Empress and Her Princess Day Party." This event will take place at the Embassy Suites Hotel at USF on August 10, 2014 from 1:00 – 5:00pm. Mothers can bring their daughters of any age to an event filled with vendors from all different backgrounds such as makeup artists, a fashion show, clothing designers, nail techs, bakers, children activities, jewelry makers, special guest appearances, and so much more.
Catch a classic movie
Catch THE classic movie at the Tampa Theatre – Citizen Kane. See the Orwellian classic with a post-film discussion with local film expert Bob Ross. The discussion is free and open to the public, the movie costs $10.
Take a roadtrip
Without every leaving Tampa. At the Glazer Children's Museum kids can learn about famous cities and landmarks across the country with interactive installations about national parks, roadside attractions and even the Roswell Invasion. Learn more here.
Laugh it up
WIth D.L. Hugley at McCurdy's Comedy Theatre in Sarasota. In 1998, through 2002, he wrote, produced and starred in the television sitcom series, The Hughleys. He is a member of The Original Kings of Comedy, and has also had roles on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and on NBC's Scrubs as Turk's brother. Click here for ticket information.
Guided nature tour at Lettuce Lake Park
Lettuce Lake Park's guided tours are offered Saturdays and Sundays at 8:30 a.m. They take participants through the boardwalk and along the scenic Hillsborough River. Park rangers will highlight many native plants, a variety of birds, and usually even an alligator or two. Those bold enough to climb the three story observation tower can enjoy a scenic overlook from the skies. Those wishing to participate should meet inside the Visitor Center. Wear comfortable clothes. See a show
Late Nite Catechism – but not really, just a very funny show. It will be shown Sunday at the Capitol Theatre in Downtown Clearwater. Instead of partaking in a relaxing summer break, Sister has been selected to teach a summer catechism course for the students who decided not to pay attention throughout the year and she is not too happy about being stuck with them! Sister will interact with the audience as she teaches her course, providing a comedic rendition of lectures. If you know what's good for you, don't be late!
