The bodies of two divers discovered at Eagle's Nest

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. -- Two experienced divers traveled from Fort Lauderdale to take a 3-day dive at Eagle's Nest dive area located at 7199 Cortez Blvd. in Weeki Wachee around 2 PM on Oct. 16, 2016.

Patrick Peacock and Chris Rittenmeyer explained to friend Justin Blakely that both were experienced divers and wanted to explore the caves, explaining that Blakely should stay closer to the surface as he was not as experienced.

The group had a predestined spot to check in and Blakely grew worried when Peacock and Rittenmeyer never showed up.

Blakely went back to the spot every half hour and finally decided to alert authorities around 6:00 PM.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, it took two attempts to find the divers. Both were discovered around 9 AM on Oct. 17, 2016, 260 feet under the water in a cave.

Both divers were pronounced dead at the scene and both were sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for a further investigation.
