Two divers rescued 30 miles from Madeira Beach

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. -- Two divers were rescued after they had been separated from their boat in the Gulf of Mexico, about 30 miles west of Madeira Beach, around 9:15 AM on September 10, 2016.

Pinellas County deputies were participating in training to round up the invasive Lionfish Safari that according to Marine Biologists, threaten the native fish populations when the distressed divers were discovered.

Robert Little, 48, and James Sailor, 31, were rescued by deputies and were taken back to the captain of the boat. The captain was not aware that the two divers had been disconnected from the marker buoys by the rough currents.
