LAKELAND, FLA. - A Lakeland woman is being charged with Aggravated Manslaughter of her two-month-old daughter, according to the Lakeland Police Department.
On May 27, authorities say 24-year-old Brittany Harris bought a bottle of Captain Morgan and left two-month-old Xzayla with a babysitter to go to a Hudson strip club.
Harris later returned to her home on Baird Ave., and the babysitter left.
On May 28, at nearly 8:39 a.m., a friend who was checking on Harris called the Lakeland Police Department after finding Xzayla "tightly wrapped in a blanket and between the legs of Harris."
According to the affidavit, life saving measured were performed on the baby by first responders as Harris continued to lay in bed.
Authorities also noted that "Brittany Harris's own words were that she was 'black out.'"
Toxicology reports show that Harris had methamphetamine, cocaine, and alcohol in her system the morning of her daughter's suffocation.
Following the death of her daughter, Harris fled to Michigan where she lived in a homeless shelter. On Nov., 27 Grand Traverse County deputies arrested Harris and held her as a fugitive without bond.
Lakeland Police say Harris will be extradited back to Florida.
