Waves from Hermine slam John's Pass overnight

Hurricane Hermine causes high water at John's Pass, but it draws some curious onlookers.

Madeira Beach, Florida — Waves from Hurricane Hermine continue to pound the Pinellas County coastline overnight Friday morning with John’s Pass taking a beating as high tide approaches.

Waves were already splashing up onto the popular tourist destination boardwalk with at least one of the first floor restaurants taking on water.

Crews aboard the Friendly Fisherman deep sea fishing charter boat could be seen riding out the storm early Friday morning with the vessels rocking in the heavy waves.

Many streets surrounding John’s Pass have standing water creating a hazard for drivers.

Sewage also appears to be overflowing from manhole covers inundated by flood waters, storm surge and high tide.
