Wednesday's Child: Michael

Tampa, Florida - You never know the impact you can have on a child's lifejust by spending some quality time with them.A former NBA playerhit the hardwood for a little 1-on-1 with a local teen named Michael who's waiting for a forever family.

The 16-year-oldloves learningnew skills out on the hardwood.
And who better to teach him here at the Central City Family YMCA in Tampa but Gary Brokaw. He'sthe director of basketball operations who just happens to be a former NBA star.

Michael is all smiles outon thecourt and off the court. The11th graderis looking to score something else though - a forever family to cheer him on through the game of life. He knows exactly what his dear old dad should be like too.

"Active, funny, love to eat! Because I love to eat," he says.

Michael is shy until he gets to know youand he'sfunny. He'sgood at cracking jokes. But when it comes to Mom cheering him on from the stands - he says he will get embarrassed if you go overboard.

He says with a big grin growing on his face, "Yep.I will quit right there."

But Brokaw says that kind of supportreally makes all the difference. He should knowhe picked up a basketball when he was 4 years old and sayshis father was his biggest supporter. "He just encouraged me to have fun and that lasted with me my entire life."

You don't have to be perfect toadoptyou just need to have patience and plenty of love.
