WWE stirs protest with Malaysia crash reference

Comments referring to the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 17 drew the wrath of wrestling fans and others online at the World Wrestling Entertainment's Battleground event at the Forum on Sunday in Tampa.

The wrestler Alexander Rusev and his manager Lana, who portray anti-American Russians, were booed as they stepped into the ring before his bout against Jack Swagger, according to the N.Y. Post.

But, then Lana, played by played by Florida-based actress Catherine Joe Perry, took the microphone and the show got worse. And, it was all posted to YouTube.

"You blame Russia for the recent current events," said Lana, in a reference to the crash that killed 298 people.

"When in fact you Americans should be scolded for your war mongering in Afghanistan and Iraq. ... You Americans should be insulted and afraid."

And, she keeps going.

"Tonight we dedicate this match to the most powerful man in the world. Tonight we dedicate this match to the man that makes fools out of all of you Americans," Lana said. "He is my role model. He is my idol, the president of Russia."

Rusev is played by Bulgarian bodybuilder Miroslav Barnyashev.
