Marijuana grow house discovered in Englewood

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. -- Detectives with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office uncovered a marijuana grow house with 25 plants in Englewood.

SCSO Special Investigations Section acted on a search warrant Tuesday on the residence located at 1492 Keyway Road and discovered the plants growing in a detached structure away from the main house.

Inside that structure was an elaborate growing system, including 14 grow lights, electric fans, a large air conditioning unit and an overhead irrigation system, according to the report.

The owner of the house, Ronald Ortiz, was arrested and charged with marijuana trafficking with an amount over 25 pounds. A second occupant of the resident was not at home during the search.

An additional 1.55 pounds of marijuana was discovered in a patio freezer and a small amount of pot was located under Ortiz's desk.
