EUSTIS, Fla. -- Six kittens were found inside a closed suitcase that was dumped in a field in front of the Cat Protection Society in Eustis, according to the group president.
Lois Lanius with the Cat Protection Society, a nonprofit no-kill shelter off Getford Road in Eustis, said she discovered the suitcase while driving to work on Wednesday.
She said she opened the suitcase, which she described as having a hard shell, and found the kittens.
"What we found was six kittens, five like this little one and one older one all suffering from heat stroke they probably would have died within the hour if she had not found them," shelter volunteer Helen Hoffman said.
Lanius and other workers wrapped the kittens in cold towels and gave them water.
She said the kittens initially appeared to be in bad shape but are doing fine now.
