DADE CITY, Florida (AP) — A Dade City man has been charged with stealing 19 packages of deodorant, reportedly to pay off a drug debt.

Police say 37-year-old Robert McCray owed $40 and was looking for something to barter off his debt. Officers say McCray went into a Dade City CVS Thursday afternoon, crammed $84 worth of anti-perspirant into his jacket and then tried to leave.

Store employees stopped McCray and told him to pay for the items, but the man tried to flee. Employees blocked McCray from leaving and held the man until police arrived.

McCray was charged with retail theft, resisting a merchant, possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held on $5,450 bail.
