6 people shot in 2 incidents in downtown Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS - Police say six people have been wounded in two separate shootings in downtown Minneapolis early Monday morning.

Two people were injured in the first shooting around 1 a.m. in the area of 4th Street South between Hennepin and Nicollet avenues. The second shooting happened about 15 minutes later, where four people were found at the scene with injuries.

All of the victims were male and transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. One was shot in the chest and is in stable condition. The other five suffered what police describe as non life-threatening injuries. At least one of the victims is a juvenile.

A suspect was arrested by Minneapolis police after a short foot chase following the second shooting. Officers also found a handgun in a parking lot but do not know if the person arrested is responsible for either shooting.

Investigators believe both shootings are gang-related. They say none of the victims are cooperating with police in either incident.

One witness told KARE 11, "It wasn't just a 'pop-pop.' This was like a whole clip."

Anyone with information about the shootings is encouraged to text a tip to 847411 (TIP411). Enter MPD, a space, and then the information. Police say all texts are anonymous.
