Texas teachers learn to load, shoot guns

SPRING, Texas (KHOU) – The school year hasn't started yet, but hundreds of local teachers are in class this week learning how to safely pack heat.

Around 300 Houston area teachers are training this week to receive their local handgun license.

"It's important that we have people on campus who are able keep us safe," said Humble ISD teacher Adam Woodward.

Spring Guns and Ammo is allowing teachers to take the class free of charge.

The Houston Federation of Teachers does not like the idea of teachers packing heat, according to VP Andrew Dewey.

"It's a horrible idea," said Dewey.
