Newt Gingrich visited several spots Sunday, including Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz, and called Mitt Romney a "Massachusetts moderate."
TAMPA, Florida -- With two days left before the Florida Primary, the GOP candidates are not holding back any punches on the campaign trail.
Newt Gingrich visited several spots Sunday, including Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz, and called Mitt Romney a "Massachusetts moderate." He said Romney was "pro-abortion, pro-gun control, and pro-tax increase."
The former Speaker of the House also spoke out about negative ads that have been running.
"I have had a long record as a very hard-hitting Reagan conservative and the idea that that record would be deliberately falsified by a Massachusetts moderate, using money from Wall Street, from the very companies who have been getting money from the federal government, is really about as big an outrage as I've had in my career," said Gingrich.
Meanwhile, Romney also made several stops, including Naples. During a rally there, he said Gingrich has been finding excuses for his difficulty in the Sunshine State.
"My own view is, the reason that Speaker Gingrich has been having a hard time in Florida is the people of Florida have watched the debates, have listened to the speaker, have listened to the other candidates, and have said, 'You know what? Mitt Romney is the guy we're going to support,'" said Romney.
Over in Sarasota, dozens of supporters gathered for a Rick Santorum rally. However, the candidate was not able to be there. He is with his 3-year-old daughter, who is hospitalized in Pennsylvania. One of Santorum's daughters spoke at the event in his place.
As for Ron Paul, he has not been in Florida at all. The presidential hopeful is focusing on winning delegates in caucus states, including Maine and Nevada.
