BRANDON, Fla. - A number of people in the Bay Area have decided, despite the deadly shooting rampage in Colorado, to watch "The Dark Knight Rises" in theaters Friday night. Some said, they're not going to let the shootings stop them from going and they're not worried.
"No, I'm not at all. I don't think nothing is going to happen over here," said Lashanda Lightbourne, who took her children to see the movie at the AMC 20 Theater in Brandon.
Steve Persall, Tampa Bay Times movie critic, doesn't believe the shootings will have any impact on attendance this weekend. At least, not according to Box Office estimates so far.
"It's heading towards 80, 90 million dollars today, which computes out to 180 million dollars, 175 or so this weekend. Which is maybe even a little bit higher than what they were expecting. So it's not scaring anybody away," said Persall.
William Insignares seems to agree. He owns Blockbuster Comics, which sits right next to the AMC 20 Theater. He's seen a lot of foot traffic.
"We've been very, very busy today. We've done twice our quota that I thought we were going to do," said Insignares.
Others though who did want to see the movie, decided to pass , especially with their children.
"There's enough dangers and enough out there in the world. Why expose your children to more. That's kind of how I see it," said Giovanni Giannini. "We'll stay away from Batman and the movie theater for the time being."
But for many, it's a time for fun and family. Without any fear.
"No nerves. No nerves. No. No nerves," said Lightbourne.
We did hear however, that some people who purchased tickets at the theater returned them, because they did not want to see the movie anymore.
