PASCO COUNTY, Florida -- It was a dog's loud bark that alerted Tammy Kemp her house was on fire early Saturday morning.
Her house doubled as an animal rescue, and housed more than 200 horses, birds, and other wildlife. Before Kemp even got out of the house, she opened up some of the cages and freed some of the birds, since they'd be better able to fend for themselves.
"She feels like the dogs saved her life," says Lynda Barhorst, owner and founder of Sky Harbor Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. "Right now, she's very upset, she's very distraught. She's going to need a lot of help in the coming days."
Kemp had no insurance on her home, and sacrificed all her belongings to get her animals to safety first.
Sky Harbor took in over a dozen turkeys and geese. Other rescues teamed up quickly to save everything from emus to horses.
"I can only imagine what trauma he's gone through, so we'll have to work with that," says Carrie Young with I.G.H. Natural Horsemanship.
The front of Kemp's house is actually an addition, according to Pasco County Fire Rescue, and investigators have determined that it was some sort of electrical issue within that portion of the house that started the fire.

"Everybody drops what they're doing, comes, and does what needs to be done," Barhorst says. "And you don't see a lot of that in this world anymore."
