Metro Embalming and Crematory
CONYERS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) - A Conyers funeral director has been suspended by the Georgia State Board of Funeral Services after he allegedly threatened to kill a colleague and dismembered the body of an obese person.
According to the board's order, William B. Ellenberg, III, owner and operator of Metro Embalming and Crematory dismembered the body prior to cremation.
Conyers Police spokesman L.T. Jack Dunn said the body was estimated at 800 pounds.
According to Dunn, it is legal to dismember a body prior to cremation with the family's permission. Investigators found Ellenberg did not ask the deceased person's family.
Dunn said no criminal charges will be filed for the incident. Police passed information to the state board that licenses Ellenberg.
The order also mentions Ellenberg threatened the life of a person who was involved in the business.
The board suspended Ellenberg's funeral director and embalmer licenses on Sept. 20. Ellenberg can appeal the decision.
