CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Venezuela's government says President Hugo Chavez suffered a respiratory infection after undergoing cancer surgery but that it has been controlled and his condition is stable.
Information Minister Ernesto Villegas provided the update on Chavez's condition Tuesday night. Chavez hasn't spoken publicly since he underwent his fourth cancer-related operation in Cuba last week.
Villegas said that doctors have prescribed "complete rest" in the coming days.
