PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) - An attorney for Jean-Claude Duvalier says his client was hospitalized after he testified in court about alleged human rights abuses under his 15-year rule.

Lawyer Reynold Georges said Monday that Duvalier wasn't feeling well before the Thursday court hearing but wanted his client to testify anyway.

Georges declined to say where Duvalier was receiving medical attention or specify the illness.

The former ruler known as "Baby Doc" gave a historic testimony last week that surprised many. Few thought he would appear in court after he rebuffed three earlier orders to show up.

Duvalier defended his 15-year rule, which international and local advocacy groups say was marked with human rights abuses and fraud.

The 61-year-old former leader was charged with rights abuses and financial crimes upon his return in January 2011.
