Members of Congress showed they couldn't live without their coffee and catering, even as they prepared the nation for massive budget cuts.
The Washington Guardian, a federal government watchdog group, just released an analysis of "congressional office" spending reports for the end of 2012.
It appears members of Congress and their staffs are a thirsty bunch, and taxpayers are picking up the tab for their java jolts.
House Speaker John Boehner racked up $2,200 in coffee supply purchases during the month of November alone.
"House leaders spent thousands of dollars at Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, Joe Ragan's Coffee Supplies, Dunkin Donuts, PF Changs, Qdoba Mexican Grill and Taylor Gourmet- just to name a few," said the Washington Guardian Reporter.
Members of Congress say they are tightening their belts. Under sequestration, they must cut eight percent from their office budgets.
That means less travel, more saving office supplies, possible furloughs and yes- fewer lattes.
