A South African court adjourned today without making a decision on bail for Olympian Oscar Pistorius.
Pistorious broke down in court as his attorney offered his side of the story.
PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA (CBSNews.com) - Oscar Pistorius was formally charged in a South African court Monday with the premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The double-amputee Olympian stood in the dock of the Pretoria courtroom and wiped away tears before his indictment. He held hands with his brother Carl and sister Aimee.
Prosecutors said Pistorius killed Steenkamp after an argument on Valentines Day. He maintains that he mistakenly shot her, believing she was an intruder in his home.
The athlete's trial date was set for March 3, 2014. He faces a life sentence with a minimum of 25 years in prison if convicted of premeditated murder.
Addressing Pistorius before the indictment Monday morning, the magistrate in the Pretoria court asked the runner whether he was well.
"Under the circumstances, your honor," replied Pistorius.
