Santa Rosa, California - The new lawyer for John Karr is asking a California judge to quickly hear the child-porn case against him.

Karr was cleared last week in the JonBenet Ramsey murder, but is awaiting transfer from Colorado to Sonoma County, California, where five misdemeanor counts of possessing child pornography have been pending against him since 2001.

It was then that authorities seized his computer and said the hard-drive contained some sexually-oriented images of children. He pleaded not-guilty to all counts and was jailed for six months, but fled the country before he could be tried.

A San Francisco attorney told the judge today that Karr is asserting his right to a speedy trial, meaning the case would have to be heard within 30 days.

The attorney says the goal is to have Karr released quickly.

It's still not clear when he'll be brought to California.
