Former Senator John Edwards says a volunteer did ask a Wal-Mart store for help in getting a Sony PlayStation Three.

But Edwards tells The Associated Press that the volunteer, who he calls “a young kid” was attempting to get the game for himself and “feels terrible.”

Earlier, Wal-Mart said that on the same day Edwards was criticizing the company in a conference call with union-backed activists, a staff member had asked a Raleigh, North Carolina, electronics department manager to obtain a P-S-Three for the ex-senator's family. Wal-Mart accused Edwards of not waiting his turn.

Edwards says that allegation is an attempt by Wal-Mart to divert attention from its own problems.
