Raleigh, NC - A Wilkes County, North Carolina man made the state's fishing record books. David Hayes reeled in a 21 pound, 1 ounce catfish on August 5th. The most remarkable part of this fish story is that Hayes used a Barbie poll to land the fish.

Hayes says his granddaughter asked him to hold the pole while she went to the bathroom. A few minutes later, the bobber went under and Hayes says he knew he had a whopper on his hand.

It took Hayes 25 minutes to land the fish. The fish measured 32 inches in length. That's 2 inches longer than the Barbie poll.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission certified the record for Hayes. He says this fish story is something he and his granddaughter can share forever.
