Online sale leads to Polk homicide

A fatal shooting occurred at a Family Dollar in Lakeland.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. -- A Pennsylvania man who recently moved to the area was gunned down during an online transaction that turned into a robbery in Lakeland on Sunday night.

Polk County Sheriff's Office are searching for the suspect, described as a black male in his 20s wearing a white or light gray zipped up hooded jacket, red shirt and white sneakers, who allegedly shot and killed Jeffery Morrow, Jr., 20, around 9:45 p.m.

Morrow was accompanying his friend, who had arranged the online sale and planned to meet the suspect at the parking lot of the Family Dollar store on South Combee Road.

When the seller and Morrow parked their truck, the suspect approached the vehicle and grabbed the item. He then ran from the victims, who gave chase. Shortly after, gunshots were heard and the seller saw his friend laying on the pavement.

The suspect then was last seen running through the neighboring Marathon Gas Station to the north.

Morrow was taken to Lakeland Regional Health where he later died.
