Sarasota children's store wins charity of the year award

Sarasota, Florida - Children's World is a uniform and educational toy store and it's been part of the Sarasota community for nearly 50 years. Tim and Cynthia Holliday have owned the store since 2001.

"We're honored to be a business in the community part of that is giving back," says Tim Holliday, co-owner of Children's World.

It's a philosophy Holliday says applies to all Children's World employees. "All employees are involved in charities, organizations, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. We adopted a park employees clean on a regular basis."

That generosity has earned Children's World the Year of Charity Store award by TD Monthly Magazine. "We live here we want to improve the area as much as we can," says Holliday.

The award includes $5,000 in specialty toys to give away to schools and charities of their choice. The Hollidays have chosen 22 organizations... mostly schools in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties.

"It's like playing Santa Claus in February," says Holliday as he and his wife load up their trunk with musical and educational toys.

Kinnan Elementary in Bradenton receives a delivery. "This makes a huge difference," says Tawnya Mathis, Guidance Counselor at Kinnan Elementary.

Mathis adds, "To come to school to have these wonderful instruments and toys to use, great educational items like conversational starter be beneficial and helpful to the kids."

Mathis says, "We do anything we can to try and reach out and make a difference."
