A woman used a dead man's bank accounts, running up nearly $20,000 in charges before the account was frozen, Clearwater police said.
Police said Tamara Persico, 44, continued to use the victim's Wells Fargo debit card and checking account for her personal use after he suffered a heart attack and died. Persico used the accounts until the account was frozen by the bank, which was five days after the victim died, according to an affidavit.
Police said after being advised of her rights, Persico admitted to using the card, saying she felt the money was owed to her, and that she was angry at the victim's family because she couldn't see the victim at the hospital before he died.
Police said the total amount taken was $19,705.61, which included a $11,500 check Persico made out to herself.
She has been charged with scheming to defraud, and she is being held on $5,000 bail.
Jail records show she has been arrested several times before, including arrests on drug charges.
