Crist ousts incumbent Jolly for House seat

ST. PETERSBURG — Charlie Crist claimed a Pinellas County congressional seat that has been held by Republicans for more than 60 years, defeating incumbent David Jolly in District 13.

But it wasn't easy. Crist, the former Republican governor who is now a Democrat, edged Jolly by a relatively slim 52 percent to 48 percent margin, according to early  returns.

Crist, a St. Petersburg native and resident, won the new parts of the district which was amended in a court-ordered redraw in 2015. He also made inroads into Jolly's Clearwater base to claim one of the most closely watched races in the country
