Trump protesters march in Ybor City

Protesters march in Ybor City to protest the election win by Donald Trump.

YBOR CITY – Dozens of protesters marched through the streets of Ybor City on Wednesday night.  They chanted, “Donald Trump go away. Racist, sexist, anti-gay.”

Protestors say they are not with one specific group.  They say they represent members of Black Lives Matter, LGBT organizations and women’s rights.

They came together after a grassroots effort on social media to protest a Trump presidency.  They’re using #NotMyPresident to organize events.

“We’re not going to stand for this.  Maybe not the fact that he is president, but we’re not going to stand for racism.  We’re not going to stand for the xenophobia.  We’re not going to stand for the misogyny.  We have fought way too hard to progress this much as a country in the 200 years that we’ve been a country.  We cannot revert,” said Jessie Rankie.

The next protest is set for 6 p.m. Thursday m. at the Federal Courthouse in Tampa.  A larger rally has been planned for Saturday in Sarasota.
