Govs. Scott, Christie hold Port of Tampa event

TAMPA, Florida (AP) - Florida Gov. Rick Scott was joined by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at a campaign event to highlight funding for Tampa's port and others across the state.

The two Republican governors appeared Thursday afternoon at Port Hendry, part of Port Tampa Bay. Scott has proposed spending $1 billion on Florida ports and other infrastructure around the state.

Earlier this week Scott appeared at Miami to help dedicate a new tunnel linking the port there more directly to the interstate highway system. PortMiami is also being dredged with state support to prepare for deeper-draft ships soon to be traveling through the Panama Canal.
