Washington, D.C. -- A soldier from Florida was among three killed Saturday in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, the U.S. Defense Department said today.
The three died when an insurgent suicide bomber detonated a vest bomb and struck their unit.
They were identified as Staff Sgt. Juan L, Rivadeneira, 27, of Davie; Cpl. Jacob R. Carver, 20, of Freeman, Mo., and Spc. Jacob C. Carroll, 20, of Clemmons, N.C.
They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Rivadeneira had been in the Army for seven years and is survived by his wife, mother and son.
Carver had been in the Army for two years and is survived by his mother and father.
Carroll had been in the Army for nearly two years and is survived by his mother and father.
