Hillsborough County, Florida - When Rick Hernandez graduated from the police academy, he couldn't wait to put on the badge and hit the streets for the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office. "When you go to training, they get you pumped up," Hernandez recalls, looking at a photo of his graduating class.

Now a Captain, during his 29 years with the agency, Hernandez has pretty much seen it all. And always, the driving force was a will to serve.

"We see people at their worst possible moments; when they've lost a loved one, they've just gotten beat up, they've just been robbed, they've just had someone go in their house and steal all their stuff, and we're there to help them," says Hernandez.

And somewhere along the line, Hernandez passed along that passion.

"I was always looking up to him. He was always my role model," says Rick's son Randy, while leaning against his patrol car.

Randy is a deputy and like his dad, he is drawn to the action and drawn to serve. "I try to treat everybody like I'd want my family to be treated," says Randy.

Dad can't help but worry, but that worry is mixed with admiration. "The level of violence today is a lot worse than when I worked the street ... but I have faith in his abilities," says Rick.

This story is all about family pride; a son proud of his dad. "They're big shoes to fill."

A father proud of his son. "Randy's already got two life-saving awards, which is pretty impressive."

And approaching this Father's Day, these two are making a difference - bonded by a badge.
