Two U.S. military trainers were killed as their vehicle tried to enter the Prince Faisal Airbase in Jordan on Friday, Jordanian news agency Petra reported.
Dana Zureikat Daoud, a spokesman for the Jordanian Embassy in Washington, confirmed the information but provided no further details. Petra reported the Americans were killed in “an exchange of gunfire.”
The Pentagon was looking into the reports but could not yet confirm them, spokesman Mark Wright said.
Jordan is a key U.S. ally in the Middle East and has been a close partner in efforts to combat the rise of the Islamic State in the region.
