Robbery suspect found dead, Bradenton police say

A man who was sought in two robberies was found dead in a motel room, the victim of an apparent drug overdose, Bradenton police said.

Timothy Steven Smith was found dead Friday at a motel located at 1526 14th St. W., Bradenton.  Police are investigating the death, which they said appears to be a drug overdose. 

No money from the bank robbery was recovered. 

About 2:20 p.m., Manatee County deputies were called to Fidelity Bank, 3005 53rd Ave. E. According to witnesses, the suspect entered the bank and handed  the teller a note demanding money.  The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the bank. 

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Smith in connection with the bank robbery. He was also a suspect in an armed robbery at a Sarasota Walgreens store on Thursday.
