Sheriff: Fmr. middle school teacher provided girl phone for sexting

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. -- A teacher who was employed at Rodgers Middle School in Riverview has been arrested following an investigation into him allegedly providing a cell phone to a female student for the purposes of sexting.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said that Michael Geist, who worked at the middle school during the second semester of the 2015-2016 school year, gave the phone to the female student in April 2016.

Geist allegedly set up applications on the phone for the student to sext with other students and himself. He also urged the student to take sexually explicit photos and videos, according to the report.

Authorities with Rodgers Middle School were alerted to the misconduct and they contacted HCSO, which launched its investigation. Detectives seized the cell phone in question as evidence.

Geist resigned from the school when the investigation began, according to deputies. He was arrested on September 12, charged with felony lewd or lascivious conduct and taken to the HCSO Orient Road jail.
