St. Pete officer who apparently kicked firefighter in groin resigns

A St. Petersburg police officer who apparently kicked a Hillsborough firefighter in the groin during a May arrest has resigned, our news partners at The Tampa Bay Times report.

Officer Ruben DeJesus was sent to the bar with other officers on May 7 when a patron was reported to have been knocked out by another patron, The Times said. A witness pointed to Clinton Walker as a suspect, and Walker became combative and had to be shocked with a stun gun.

Surveillance video appeared to show DeJesus kicking Walker in the groin after he was shocked.

The incident was investigated by the department's Office of Professional Standards, but DeJesus resigned before facing a hearing.
