Teenager hit while crossing Hillsborough Avenue

Tampa, Florida -- An 18-year-old boy was hit by a car while trying to cross East Hillsborough Avenue and North 40th Street Wednesday afternoon.

Tampa Police say the teen and his friend were running across the northbound lanes of Hillsborough Avenue when he was hit by the car. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital and is in very critical condition.

Police say the teen is a student from Gary Adult High School. His name has not been released at this time.

At this time, police say the driver of the car will not face charges as the accident appears to have been a tragic accident.

The location of this accident is about 20 blocks away from where two sisters were hit while crossing the street on Hillsborough Avenue about three weeks ago. 10 News recently reported that the Department of Transportation had installed four cameras along the 2500 block of Hillsborough Avenue in an effort to make the road safer.
