Two teens were arrested after a Lakeland store was smashed into and jewelry snatched, Polk County deputies said.
Early Monday, deputies were summoned by an alarm to Max Jewelers, 1553 Town Center Drive, where they found the front window and door had been smashed and the jewelry case broken into.
About two hours later, a deputy spotted a 2008 GMC Sierra pickup that had been reported stolen traveling southbound on Highway 27. After a short chase, the vehicle crashed in a ditch on Highway 27. The passenger was immediately apprehended. The driver fled on foot and was observed jumping a fence at a business. Haines City Police Department K-9 located and apprehended the driver.
Both subjects had a backpack containing jewelry from Max Jewelers.
The 17-year-old driver, a boy from Winter Haven, has been charged with Burglary to an Unoccupied Structure, Grand Theft and Possession of Burglary Tools.
The passenger, a 15-year-old Winter Haven boy, has been charged with Burglary to an Unoccupied Structure and Grand Theft.
The suspects' names are being withheld by 10News WTSP because of their age.
A third suspect has been identified, and the teens may face more charges.
