Lake Wales, Florida -- Polk County Sheriff's deputies are searching for the grandson of a Lake Wales woman found dead in her home Tuesday morning.
According to the sheriff's office, around 7:40 a.m., 19-year-old Jasper Smiddie's father called police saying his son told him he had killed his grandmother, who he was living with at the time.
Deputies arrived at the home, at 4890 Wales Street, and found 67-year-old Gloria Helfrich in a locked bedroom. Detectives say she was the obvious victim of a murder. Jasper's uncle was also home at the time and lives with the two.
A statewide BOLO has been issued for Smiddie, who may be driving a silver 2006 Toyota Rav-4 SUV, with Florida tag N59 9GP.
If anyone sees Jasper Smiddie they are urged to contact the Polk County Sheriff's Office immediately by dialing 911 or 863-298-6200.
